Malibu Country Mart was founded in 1975 and has gone through several transformations over the years. Originally, the Mart housed a bunch of practical stores for local Malibu residents, including a grocery and hardware store. In 1977, Malibu Records opened its doors, pulling in customers from the entire Malibu area, including Topanga, Zuma and further afield. Much of its success was down the volume of musicians living in Malibu at that time, including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Elton John and members of the Eagles, among others.
