Founded in 1998 by Tohru Nogami in Osaka, Japan, Samurai jeans are instantly recognisable by the flash of silver thread woven into the selvedge—a callback to the steely glint of samurai swords of yore. Samurai produces very unique fabrics, some heavily slubbed and dyed with natural indigo. As you’d expect from a Japanese denim brand, the quality of construction, fabric, and finishing is second to none.
The SJ42CP is crafted from an impressively weighty, 15oz selvedge chino cloth—custom woven on vintage shuttle looms. A sulphur dye treatment ensures these chinos will fade beautifully, developing all the depth and time-worn character of vintage military trousers. In true Samurai fashion, smaller details abound: from the silver lamé selvedge ID to the custom iron pine tree buttons and jacquard-woven pocket bags.
