The company we know today as Lee Jeans began life as the H.D. Lee Corporation, based out of Kansas. Mr Henry David Lee launched his business venture back in 1889 as a grocery wholesaler that used the new network of railroads to ship fresh produce across previously impassable distances.
Lee stumbled into workwear after he had trouble sourcing adequate supplies from his Eastern workwear suppliers and began producing overalls for his workers in-house. Overalls became coveralls, coveralls became locomotive jackets—and finally jeans and denim jackets.
This pair of Lee 1889 jeans is a testament to quality goods. Despite being over 30 years old, the condition of these is phenomenal and contemporary. They're crafted from a heavy, rich indigo denim with a hairy texture (typical of loomstate denim). They feature a high rise and relaxed fit in the thigh with a slight taper to the ankle.
