Sir Paul Smith is the designer, master shopkeeper and majority shareholder of his namesake brand: Paul Smith, but you can call him Paul. Paul Smith's designs are eclectic, with references drawn from art, music, and everyday life. You’ll also find plenty of nods to Paul’s lifelong love of cycling.
Paul Smith's Red Ear line is a niche, discontinued line within the house's portfolio, renowned for its fusion of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and contemporary design. The collection emphasises artisanal techniques, utilising premium fabrics and unique dyeing processes to create modern workwear-inspired pieces. Notably, the name “Red Ear” translates from the Japanese term “akamini,” referring to selvedge denim, which is a staple in the line.
A perfect piece of casual summer shirting, this exceptional shirt is crafted from indigo Yukata fabric adorned with repeating dragonfly motifs. Yukata cloth is traditionally used in summer Kimonos, a perfect example of the Red Ear lines' use of Japanese textiles outside of their usual applications. It features a button front closure with a button-down collar using mother-of-pearl buttons in varying sizes and colours.
